Out of the Depths

It starts like a fairy tale: once upon a time, God told a prophet to go to a great city. The prophet ran the other way.

The book of Jonah is one of the strangest, funniest, and most surprising in all of Scripture—a satirical comedy about a reluctant prophet, a repentant empire, and a God whose mercy keeps outrunning everyone's expectations. Over the next three weeks, we'll read the entirety of Jonah aloud in worship and follow our antihero prophet from the belly of the fish to the outskirts of Nineveh, where it turns out the story was always about us.
