How We Care for Our Members

Some of our members are homebound. Through the Special Care program, parish Deacons provide regular visits or phone calls to combat loneliness and keep homebound members connected to the Westminster community. Two Special Care members are lifted up in prayer each Sunday, cycling through the full list so every member receives equal time.

Deacons assist members with transportation to church or medical appointments and can provide short-term practical help, including meal assistance or help with a move. Members are also welcome to request Deacon visits during hospital stays. Each month, Deacons meet to develop a care plan for members in need, drawing on their professional experience and knowledge of local social services.

Deacons are empowered to bring communion to members who are ill or unable to attend in person. Following Communion Sunday (typically the first Sunday of the month), Deacons visit members who have requested it, sharing scripture from the service, listening to joys and concerns, and praying together.

Deacons help Westminster host events that build community and lasting relationships, including the annual All Church Picnic at William Land Park each summer and the church Christmas Party. At Christmas, the Deacons also coordinate gifts for children referred by local charitable organizations, with the whole congregation participating.
